Shroom Run is a 2D platform game built in Unity. It depicts the tale of a young mushroom who is trying to make their way home through the forest as it gets dark, revealing creepy creatures and unexpected obstacles along the way.
My team began with a Double Diamond thought process. My main research focus in this project was through interviewing users and taking surveys on what players find scary and why, as well as how we can use color theory and psychology to create engaging reactions for players. I also tested different iterations of title screens by shifting hues by 10% to see which screen users found least threatening. The results to allowed me to select the screen that most makes the game seem unassuming and light at first play, and an order in which to change title screens through a user’s game and story progression, or for users to have personalization and accessibility options for color as well.

problem

As smartphones become a necessary tool for modern American life, access to a quality camera is now widespread. This demographic includes students, who love taking creative photos and showing off the lives on social media. But how can a student find the time amongst their studies to plan a photoshoot, learn the techniques to get the shots they want, remember all the equipment they may need, AND find others to share the joy with? This is why our team created Groopshoot, as a tool to help students collaborate creatively!

personas

Among four personas of various student types, Raven was the one I was responsible for.

reflection

As a first introduction into User Experience design, this project taught me so much about creating with others at the center of a project. I recognize opportunities for more research-based decisions as well as prototype testing with other students, but in the scope of a semester class, we accomplished what we could. Our main sources of outside opinion included more colloquial interviews, other classmates, and instrutor feedback. For our next steps, I imagine our team would have further developed our prototype, and sought data from other platform users as well.
